Christmas in Fiji

A long school-break coupled with cyclone season can make for interesting times in Fiji.  As school finishes in late November/early December for the end of the academic year, summer holidays loom before children and parents.  You can take advantage of excellent local rates leading right up to your Christmas in Fiji

Staying “home” in Fiji

The ‘normal’ rules apply of keeping kids busy throughout the holidays. Below you will find some links for classes that you can enrol your children into, making the most of their holiday time.  Check the usual facebook sites, often if a craft group are doing something they will list it there.

  • Support Rotary AND go to a film premiere:

Star Wars film premiere

  • Learn a language: Learn French at Alliance Francaise
  • Learn to swim: Learn to Swim Fiji

Going “away” in Fiji

I like to put together an excel file that tables all the local rates, what is included and any extras ready to make my final decision. Here is an example copy.  I use the “responded” column to fill in a colour of whether I am considering this option still or ruled it out.

The more flexible you are with timing and location and the closer to Christmas you get you can pick up some very good deals in my experience.  Mostly overseas tourists will start arriving on Boxing Day or later, so it seems the great combination of early school holidays coupled with a good bargain are just waiting to entice you.

Cyclone Season

At the beginning of the season it is a good time to check you have spare water (drinking water). Candles and matches and batteries for radios and torches.  Have some easy meals that don’t require electricity.  It is really easy if you have gas at home as a cooking option, then the whole world of pasta opens up for you.

Always follow the advice of the “Met” http://www.met.gov.fj

Remember if you have a pool then it’s easy to flush the toilet with a bucket of chlorinated water.

On a lighter note, it’s good family time.  Get out the board games, card games and some good books.  Download a podcast series and make sure your device is charged so you can play it until the end.  If you don’t have a power pack charger, now is a good time to get one.

Stay safe & enjoy your holidays
